About Giovanni Matteo Asola

Asola was born in Verona. In 1546 he entered the congregation of Secular Canons of S. Giorgio in Alga. From
1566 until his death he held benefices at S. Stefano, Verona. He was appointed M stro di Cappella in Treviso in
1577, and held a similar position in Vincenza the following year. In 1582 he probably went to Venice. He declared,
in a dedication, that "Palestrina is the greatest composer of the period". Almost his entire output of music is sacred.
